THE TRADITIONAL LOOM
The loom is usually a large wooden tool on which we weave fabrics. It can be found in many cultures around the world and sixty years ago most households in Greece had one!
In the old times domestic weaving was necessary for each household as it provided the family with fabric for their clothes as well as carpets, rugs and blankets. Here in the mountains of Zagori the raw material, sheep’s wool, was processed by the women mainly during the summer months while during the cold winter months it was woven.
Nowadays this need does not exist but instead there is a need for creativity, tranquility and concentration, leaving a little room for the loom to breath and create!
